Rick will be taking some downtime for the summer! He'll perform family concerts in Polson Park in Vernon on Tuesday May 29 at 10:30 am Saturday July 20 at 10 am Providence Farm in Duncan at the Islands Folk Festival, then scoot up to Courtenay for the Renaissance Fair Reunion that evening. We plan to spend the summer kayaking, woodworking, gardening and writing the new family show that will premiere with the Vancouver Island Symphony in February. Check the tour schedule for shows in the Fall.
Rick was honoured with a 2013 Vancouver Island Music Award, along with our great pals The Kerplunks. THE GREAT GAZZOON was named as a Best Book for Kids & Teens by the Canadian Children's Book Centre and is a finalist for an Audie Award in New York. It has already been honoured with 2012 Family Choice and Parents' Choice Approved.
This week Bill Henderson of the classic rock band Chilliwack included Rick's song Halloween Hoodoo in his Top Ten PLaylist on CBC Radio. He called Rick's catalogue "the Seargent Pepper's of children's music." Thanks for these kind words, Grandpa Bill!
Have a great summer and keep singing and we'll see you again soon. Rick and Valley
We received a wonderful GAZZOON review from 9 year old Gracie in Victoria, here's an excerpt, and thanks, Gracie!
"This story is quite funny and enjoyable at any time of the day—I listen to it when I am getting ready to go to sleep, while I take long car rides and when I have nothing to do. Me and my whole family love to listen to The Great Gazzoon and I would definitely recommend it to other families. I loved all the awesome sound effects that were used in the music and story and the names that were chosen for the characters. The music for is full of feeling and uses dulcimers, a thunder drum, a kalimba and many other instruments. It's very easy to listen to, there are many different tempos and moods. Rick Scott is the narrator and seven other characters, including Gazzoon, Brofus, Goloroth, Zoomplah and the ekko No Name. Rick Scott’s storytelling is quite funny and interesting because it makes you wonder how he changes voices so fast. My favourite part of this album is . . . everything! I think if there were an award for Best Musical Storybook, The Great Gazzoon would win it by a long shot. I also think if there were an award for Greatest Story Teller, Rick Scott should win that award as well!"
